Nepal To Receive Medical Supplies Grant Worth US$500,000

KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Bernama) -- 'We Care for Humanity' (WCH), an internationally recognised organisation dealing mainly with current global issues, plans to give Nepal a grant of US$500,000 (RM1.87 million) worth of medical supplies and equipment under its Global Health Initiative for Humanity (GHIH) project.

In a statement made available to Bernama, WCH said its founder and president Princess Datuk Seri Maria Amor was in Nepal recently where she had a one-to-one meeting with Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on June 27 regarding the grant.

"We care for Nepal. We want to help by extending our vision 'No Nation Left Behind on Medical Needs' especially to the victims of the earthquake," Amor was quoted as saying in the statement.

The statement said WCH was at the beginning stage of giving the grant, which is receiving endorsement from the Nepal Government. The Nepal Health Ministry has agreed to release the endorsements needed to process the GHIH programme the soonest possible.

A massive earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale hit Nepal on April 25, killing at least 8,700 people and damaging property worth billions of ringgit.

GHIH, a global health initiative campaign of WGH in partnership with Global Health Ambassadors (GHA), was formed to bridge the gap of staggering health resources in the developing world by providing donated medical equipment and supplies to developing countries.

Meanwhile, Princess Amor, on a mission to promote WCH's programmes on Health and Eradication of Poverty, affirmed her desire to return to Nepal to help the needy in the South Asian country.

"I am definitely coming back to Nepal, especially now that the Prime Minister is encouraging me to meet the right channels to facilitate WCH projects.

"He is very supportive and enthusiastic of our efforts and I am more inspired than ever to make sure that WCH's hopes for Nepal come to fruition," she said.

During her visit to Nepal, Amor also met with Nepal's former Prime Minister Khil Raj Regmi, who will be honoured at the 3rd Global Officials of Dignity Awards at the United Nations on Aug 5-7 as Asia's Dignitary Man of the Year.

WCH, founded in 2011, is a non-profit organisation based in California, United States.
